EasyECU

Software Overview

EasyECU allows car enthusiast to program their Subaru or Mitsubishi ECU with standard or modified ROM files, and is available from your preferred EcuTek supplier.

EasyECU does NOT allow for ROM file editing.

EasyECU comes bundled with DeltaDash and a USB-OBD2 Vehicle Interface Cable.

EasyECU is split up into 3 editions:

EasyECU Drive By Wire Edition, referred to as EasyECU-DBW, supports all 2004 to 2006 Model Year (MY) Subaru's fitted with the 2.5 litre Engine, such as the Subaru STI
EasyECU Non-Drive By Wire Edition, referred to as EasyECU-Non-DBW, supports 2001 to 2005 Model Year (MY) Subaru's fitted with the 2.0 litre Engine, such as the Subaru WRX
EasyECU EVO Edition supports all Mitsubishi EVO 5/6/7/8/9 Vehicles, that's over 80 different ECU versions.

Who are EasyECU Editions for?

EasyECU allows the programming of one Subaru ECU with both standard and modified ROM files. DeltaDash also comes bundled with EasyECU, which enables the Subaru owners to reprogram their ECU with a custom ROM file, and then data log the performance data directly from the ECU via the diagnostic port. Custom ROMs created for different fuel types can therefore be created by a Subaru tuner for a specific car's configuration either by taking the car to the tuner, or by providing the tuner with the logged data maps generated by DeltaDash.

Subaru WRX Log files

EasyECU make use of ROM-keying to tie a specific ROM file to a customer's hardware licence key. This is so that the customer can buy a set of products from a tuner a great distance away. The tuner will supply the hardware for the conversion and EasyECU with pre-programmed matching ROM files which have been optimised for the conversion. The ROM files will be locked to the hardware supplied with EasyECU. The hardware can then be fitted locally and the ECU programmed by the customer. The car can also be data logged and results e-mailed back to the tuner who may make any modifications that he feels may be necessary.

EasyECU programming software

EasyECU can reprogram a Subaru ECU in under 2 minutes! All that is required is a custom or standard ROM file for the specific vehicle model, the USB-OBD2 Vehicle Interface Cable and a Laptop.

ECU Programming

To reprogram the ECU, the EcuTek programming interface is simply plugged into the diagnostic socket of the car. Any of the ECUs listed above can then be reprogrammed in under 2 minutes!

Unlike other 'chipping' solutions, EasyECU require no soldering and no physical access to the ECU - an altogether quicker, cleaner and more reliable method of tuning. Rather than spending time soldering and de-soldering hair thin chip legs, the tuner's time can now be spent more productively, with less time spent soldering and more time actually improving mapping of the customer's car.

Once an effective map has been produced for a particular combination of modifications, further identically mapped ECUs may be rapidly produced. This is extremely useful for companies who wish to package a pre-mapped ECU with their exhaust manifolds or turbo/FMIC kits.

Why Reprogram the Original ECU ?

  • Reprogramming the original ECU is by far the cleanest, safest and quickest way of correctly compensating for engine, induction and exhaust modifications. The maps in the standard ECU may be adjusted to cater for virtually any modifications that are likely to be made to a car.
  • Civilised features such as cold start and stable idle are all retained, whilst performance mapping begins from the (already extremely good) standard Subaru map rather than from a blank sheet of paper.
  • Risky boost clamps, bleed valves, boost controllers and piggy back modules may all be discarded and replaced by a pure and accurate mapping adjustment.
  • The safety features of the ECU are retained, such as sensor checks, fuel cut, boost cut, rev limit, speed limit and 'limp home' mode, though they may be altered to suit the car and its modifications. E.g. if the ECU detects a problem (engine over-temperature or failed sensor), it is still in full control of boost pressure and is able to take evasive action to preserve the engine. This is in stark contrast to external controllers and piggy back modules that either take over control of engine functions, or fool the ECU about the state of its sensors.

System Requirements

User Requirements!

Familiarity with standard Windows based software applications.

EcuTeK EasyECU software is provided on the understanding that the user appreciate and understand the responsibilities he takes on when modifying the ECU with a non standard ROM file.

EasyECU is provided to enable an experienced tuner to supply the car owner with custom developed ROM files that can be programmed into your ECU to be used in different circumstances.

An example would be that a Subaru owner might require two ROM files for use on the street and for the track when using different quality fuels. To assist the tuner, the user must provide them with as much detailed data on the specification of the car. DeltaDash is a very powerful tool and the more the user of EasyECU is able to use it and provide data to the tuner, the better the tuner can tailor a ROM file to the specific requirements.

As such, the user of EasyECU should already be familiar with the principles of engine tuning and the operation of DeltaDash. The user should be able to carry out detailed data logging, enabling them to provide data to assist the tuner in the event of further ROM file modifications being required.
