Software Overview

FlashCAN Mitsubishi Diesel product supports the Mitsubishi Pajero, Triton, L200 and Shogun vehicles that use the Common Rail Diesel engines, and allows reprogramming of the standard OEM engine management unit.

Advantages over Smoke Boxes

An EcuTek Remap is a true recalibration of the ECU map data, meaning you get a consistent, high quality remap, resulting in Increased power, increased fuel-economy, greater emissions reduction, better driveability , and you can retain all the factory safety features to protect your vehicle.

You do not have to pay for expensive hardware, as everything you need to tune well is already on your vehicle, lowers tuning costs

Smoke Boxes interfere with the signals to the ECU so it does not see the correct Boost Pressure, Fuel Rail Pressure Airflow, Injection open time and turbochargers. This can cause serious problems as the ECU is trying to compensate for incorrect values.

Here are a few disadvantages with using smoke boxes.

  • The ECU does not know TRUE Fuel Pressure, TRUE Airflow and True Boost pressure.
  • Fuel computers become grossly inaccurate.
  • Boost Limits and Airflow limits set in the ECU to protect the engine when the wastegate fails or sticks, and the turbo over-revs will not work as Interference box will 'clamp' these signals to try and increase power.
  • DPF (Diesel Particulate Filters) quickly become blocked as ECU can not accurately calculate the correct Injection Quantity so does not Regenerate the DPF as frequently.
  • Fuel pressure runs at a very high 1,800 bar. By clamping the rail pressure signal the ECU raises fuel pressure even higher and the mechanical relief valve (fitted to protect the fuel rail from exploding) then returns the excess fuel back to the fuel tank. This means the pump is overloaded and overworked and Fuel Temp in the tank can rise from all the heat generated.
  • The ECU opens the Injectors at 0.4 ms intervals and up to 5 times during the combustion process, it is critical that the correct signals are received for the Engine sensors to perform this precise operation.
  • The ECU carries out per cylinder Injection Quantity Fine Tuning to balance each cylinder for best engine harmonics, fuel consumption and emissions, all of this could be inaccurate if an Interference box is altering ECU inputs.
  • Cost, hardware cost and sold through dealer networks means customer RRP is high.
  • The majority of smoke box interceptors are generic, quite covering many different vehicles increasing sensor inaccuracy.
